Trusting in God's mercy, we strive to implement our charism every day. However, the needs are huge. Nevertheless, God allows us to serve our fellowmen for whom we are responsible
Catechization and family pastoral care
Our most important task is to proclaim Christ by word and testimony of life. Remembering this, we are teaching in several Rwandan parishes. We try to focus on the needs of women and young people, but our meetings can be attended by anyone who is interested. We preach the main truths of the Gospel and focus on communicating the fundamental truths of the Catholic faith.
We organize catechization meetings cyclically. The specificity of our work differs from the catechesis known, for example in Europe. After announcing the date and approximate place of the meeting, we prepare some food, topics and begin to preach the Word of God. At meetings, we combine catechization with the preparation and distribution of food - we try to remember about the physical needs of our listeners.
We preach catechesis in several parishes:
1. Gisagara Parish
2. Ngoma Parish
3. Holy Family Parish
4. Kibungo Parish
5. Ruramba Parish
The family pastoral meetings are similar. One of the important differences is the places of catechesis, because we preach throughout the diocese of Byumba. At meetings for families, we present the teaching of Christ's Church on topics important for the proper functioning of the family in all dimensions.
Homes of poor
Running houses for the needy is part of our charism, which is a helper for the elderly, especially the poor and needy. In our facilities, we care for 152 people, but it’s only a single drop in the ocean of needs. We try to do everything to take as many people as possible.
We take care of those who, for various reasons, lacked help from the family, community or state. We help through food, clothing etc. It is difficult, because we can make it only thanks to the donors. We take care of seven homes for needy people in Rwanda. Cities where our facilities are located:
- Gisagara,
- Tumba,
- Ngoma,
- Kabgayi,
- Kibungo,
- Gisenyi
- Byumba.
In Rwanda, due to insurance problems, "old people are at their best for themselves." If they do not have support, they will face poverty and hunger. Some of our pupils are sick and infirm and some needs help with simple, daily activities. We have also situations, which we can help only by praying or hearing person. Although, we tried every day serve our fellow man.
Detailed data of our houses:
We take care of 152 people. Our protégés are the main women (95), but we also host the man(57).
House of Saint Raphael in Gisagara - 38 residents
House of Saint Aloysius in Tumba - 25 residents
St. Peter's House in Ngoma - 24 residents
Saint Joseph's House in Kabgaya - 23 residents
The House of Our Lady of Hope in Kibungo - 20 residents
House of the Virgin of the Poor in Gisenyi - 12 residents
The House of Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus in Byumba - 10 residents
Health centers and hospital
In Africa, access to health care, even basic care, is very difficult. We have built our centers for everyone who lacks access to medical necessities. Our patients are lonely, homeless, poor, especially elderly people. We serve what we can at the moment, although sometimes basic materials and medicines are lacking.
Nevertheless, we try to help everyone. Our support is free. If someone can afford it, they make a donation, but most of the funds for the functioning of our centers come from donors and people of good will.
We provide help in four places, and our centers are usually located near religious houses:
1. Gisagara Health Center,
2. Matyazo Health Center
3. Ruramba Health Center
4. Rukoma-Sake Health Center
Part of our activity is also working at the Kabgayi Hospital. We help to nurture patients there and accompany them in their everyday life, providing physical and spiritual help.
Vocational Training Center
In the city of Kabuye, we run a Vocational Training Center, where we conduct free sewing lessons. Our students are mainly young girls and women, but the training is available to everyone. Anyone who would like to learn to sew, can come and try their hand at this profession.
People who have completed our course can count on further help. As a rule, we help our pupils to start some micro-activity so that they can start working on their own. There are also cases, and by no means isolated, when our students want to work in various types of sewing rooms. The document that we issue after completing the training, entitles you to start working in larger facilities and is a confirmation of mastering the sewing skills on the machine.
We are happy that we can contribute to building a new life for our pupils. Having practical skills and craftsmanship in hand is very important for Rwandan women. Thanks to the possibility of work, young women have a chance of independence, including financial independence, and are not condemned to living conditions that offend human dignity.
Other activities
We also cooperate with local Caritas branches and help in obtaining social assistance in the Social City Office.
Cooperation with Caritas takes place in three places:
1. Diocese of Butare
2. Kibungo Diocese
3. Parish in Gisenyi
We can also help to obtain social assistance from the City Council of Byumba.
